New Snow

This photo of a snow-covered trail reminds me of one of my "secret" winter running aspirations.  I like to be the first person to run on new snow.  There's something exhilarating about a quiet early morning run that feels like you are going somewhere that no one else has gone before.  You're away from crowds, blazing unbroken snow, and finding your own path.

There's a similar thought to successful long-term investing.  Sometimes, you have to avoid the crowds, the noise, and the distractions.  When everyone is following the same path, you have to wonder if it's the right path.

I am not an investing prognosticator, but I do see two dominant forces in the markets:  historically low interest rates, and highly speculative investing.  Because some investors do not see bonds as a viable investment, many are chasing returns in higher risk areas (i.e., GameStop, SPACs, and digital currency, to name a few).

Wisdom:  Find your own path.  You alone know your goals, risk tolerance and timeline.  There is no one else with an identical plan, so do not follow the crowd.  Not sure about your current plan, or maybe you don't have one?  Call me.  Let's talk through your needs and we'll either design or refine your plan.

Laissez les bons temps rouler

I’ve assembled a few recent articles that I found interesting and informative. I also added a little light diversion.

Market Mania:  Need more proof the market is seeking speculative return?  This article investigates a cryptocurrency-based sports trading card company.  Crazy.

Tax Return Security: A new IRS tool lets you protect your tax refund, and your identity, from scammers.

Refinancing:  Are you considering refinancing your home mortgage?  This MoneyWise podcast touches on all the key points to follow.

Second Home:  Because of various factors related to the pandemic, some people are considering buying a second home.  Be sure to consider the tax implications.

Nap:  How naps can keep you happy and healthy.

King Cake

In honor of Mardi Gras earlier this month, one of our Clients, Sue Maitre, baked the beautiful King Cake pictured above.  She personalized it with her Grandma's pecan pie filling and used her own home grown sourdough yeast.  Definitely a more sophisticated approach to the traditional King Cake.  Yum!
